Biomimetics in Bremen

Biomimetics are firmly anchored in Bremen. Since 2003, biomimetics have been taught and researched at Bremen University of Applied Sciences, but biomimetic ideas have also been transferred into industrial applications (e.g. AirCoat, Sharkskin 2.0), approaches have been defined (VDI Guideline 6220 Sheet 1) and made accessible to a broad (e.g. via our seminars or the Youtube-Channel) as well as specialized public (e.g. congresses). There are close cooperations with partners from industry, to biomimetics networks, other research institutions and the Association of German Engineers (VDI e.V.).

The Biomimetics-Innovation-Centre (B-I-C) is the superstructure of biomimeitcs in Bremen. Here you will find contact persons for industry cooperation, educational projects and research.

There are two biomimeitcs study courses in Bremen: Biomimetics can be studied as a Bachelor Course (B. Sc.) in the "International Study Program Biomimetics" (ISB) or as a specialization in the Master Course (M. Sc.) "Biomimetics: Mobile Systems". There is also the possibility to do a doctorate. The study programs and research departments are equipped with innovative laboratories and workshops (Creative Labs) where students receive qualified training. Prototypes can be realized here in a 3D printing line, among other things, and biomimetics models or material samples can be examined on the atomic force microscope (AFM).

Five professors are currently responsible for one teaching area each. They are supported by a Team of scientific, administrative and student staff.
